Q: My new 2007 Ford Escape SUV is totaled, so how much is it worth now?
I bought a new 2007 Ford Escape about 6 months ago, and it only has 8000 miles on it. After a recent roll over, due to ice, my vehicle has been totaled by the insurance company.

It was a 2 wheel drive XLT, V6 engine. With other features like leather seats, sunroof, cargo privacy cover, and upgraded radio/sound system.

I know a new car loses value after driving off the dealership lot, and that the insurance company is most likely going to give me a check based on the depreciated value of the SUV.

State Farm Insurance uses NADA retail value books, but does anyone have any other idea of how much money I should be expecting?

A: Figure $2k – $5k less than you paid for it, depending upon how good a deal you got on it.

My ‘06 Fusion with 14.5k miles stickered at $26,045 and I paid $22,300 (I’m eligible for X-Plan pricing). It books out at $21,300 right now. That’s unusually good, most cars don’t do nearly that well.

Q: What do people think about the Ford Escape suv? New or Used.?
Right now Ford is having a special for 0% 60 months on all new ford escapes. It looks like a great small suv. The payments would be 300-400 range a month for a new one. The car insurance would be around the 70-80 range a month. Is it a better deal to buy new or used on this suv? Does ford have the 5 year warranty right now?

A: I’m not sure about the 5 year warranty but, my roommate has one with leather seats and it’s pretty nice. It rides good and the back seat reclines on one side which is pretty cool, to me anyways lol. Also its pretty spacious for a small SUV. She hasn’t had any problems with hers and hers is a 2006. I would recommend getting a used one though, especially with the economy the way it is.

Q: ford escape SUV hybrid opinions?
I am would like to hear opinions about the Ford Escape SUV hybrid. I am looking for gas mileage and cargo space. What do I ask the dealership? Also what about a used one (good/bad idea) What kind of gas mileage does it get highway and is there some kind of tax break?

A: Those guys above could only give you opinions (most of which are inaccurate or flat-out wrong). Here are the facts:

The Escape Hybrid is a good car, with very low maintenance requirements because:

- The Escape Hybrid uses regenerative braking, which means you don’t need to change the brake pads until after 100,000 miles. Regular cars need brake jobs every 30K miles or so.

- The Escape Hybrid uses a Power Split Device transmission, which has only one single planetary gearset, no gear-shifting, no clutches. Because of this simplicity, it is FAR more reliable than the transmissions in regular cars, which uses complicated transmissions that has either multiple gear-shifting or friction-belt-driven CVTs.

- The Power Split Device transmission in the FEH is very similar to the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive (Toyota Hybrids are good too).

- The Escape Hybrid has no starter solenoid / motor (which frequently causes trouble in regular cars), no alternator, no timing belt. Less things to wear out and need repair.

- The Escape Hybrid’s battery system has an 8-year / 100,000 mile warranty. If the battery dies within 8 years, Ford replaces it for free.

- You can get 30mpg easily with the FEH.

- The FEH does indeed qualify for a federal tax break if you buy (not lease) the car. $1950 for the 4WD model, $2600 for the 2WD.

- As a testament to how tough the FEH is, most of the FEHs in use with the NYC Taxi Fleet has racked up 200,000 miles with no problems, despite the abuse cabbies heap on them every day.

The Escape Hybrid is a great car for daily driver use, for hauling groceries or kids.

Get a new one so you can have the full 8-year warranty on the Hybrid system (rather than a transferred warranty that only has part of the 8-year 100,000 mile coverage left on a used one).

Those are the facts.

Q: What’s wrong with a Ford Escape SUV?
I’m looking at buying a used Ford Escape XLT (in New Zealand, not sure what the model is called overseas). Does anybody have the down low on this model. Are they any good? Looking at the 2001 to 2003 bracket, 3litre V6.

A: I have an 06 Ford Escape. I’ve had it for two years and its been a good car…I have had the water pump replaced twice…not sure if that’s a problem with all Ford Escapes or just mine, as I don’t know anybody else who owns one…but other than that its been great. The gas mileage is even decent, especially for an SUV.

Q: Need feed back from anyone that drives a Ford Escape SUV. Love the small SUV look-need pros and cons of it.?
With my bad knee arthritis finding it harder and harder to get out of my Dodge Intrepid. Love the look of the new small suvs…especially the Ford Escape. Need some feed back from anyone with any infomation on it. Thanks!!

A: our V-6 escape has been fun and reliable …no issues at all!…

Q: What is the better SUV … Ford escape hybrid , toyota hylander hybrid or the Honda CR-V ?
just would like to know cause we are looking for an SUV possibly …. does anybody know any better suggestions ?

A: I like the Ford Escape Hybrid. It is the best value out of the three. Rather than uninformed opinions like most other posters are giving you, here are some cold hard facts:

The FEH uses a planetary-gear Power Split Device (PSD) transmission that is very similar to the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) used in the Highlander Hybrid, so it has all of the same low-maintenance benefits as the HiHy, but the FEH costs a lot less.

Benefits of a PSD/HSD-equipped car:

- Uses regenerative braking, which means you don’t need to change the brake pads until after 100,000 miles. (Regular cars like the Honda CR-V will need a brake job every 30,000 miles or so).

- Transmission reliability. The PSD/HSD transmission is just one single gearset, no gear-shifting, no clutches. Its simplicity means it’s a lot tougher than regular gear-shifting multispeed transmissions (such as the one in the CR-V), or belt-driven CVT trannies.

- No starter solenoid / motor (which frequently causes trouble in regular cars– “boo hoo hoo, my car won’t start!”), no alternator, no timing belt. Less things to wear out.

The Ford PSD system and the Toyota HSD both have 8-year warranties, so if the traction battery dies within 8 years, they will replace it for free.

Not to mention the great gas mileage of the PSD/HSD-equipped vehicles, which is almost an afterthought.

As far as I’m concerned, you really can’t go wrong with a PSD/HSD-equipped vehicle, which includes:

- All Toyota hybrids (Hybrid Synergy Drive)
- All Lexus hybrids (Hybrid Synergy Drive)
- Ford Escape Hybrid (own-developed PSD drive)
- Nissan Altima Hybrid (licensed Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive)

But as far as hybrid SUVs are concerned, I feel the FEH is the best value.

Q: How to drive a Ford Escape Suv?
So im 15 years old and im getting my learners permit. Im gonna practice on my moms cars, she has a Ford Escape Suv.
So i know how to drive but i need like the steps.
Like how do i put the signal on??
& theres a stick with park and drive…
When do i use those?
Uh i know i sound stupid, but if you give me tips on driving this car it would be very helpful!
thank you
ohkay i know how to drive it and stuff.
But i just dont know where the signals are in the car?

A: Start the car, put the shifter into D(drive), lift off the parking brake with your foot on the foot brake and then slowly depress the footbrake whilst applying the gas pedal. The signal is the lever on the left of the steering wheel.

P.S. Your Mum and your driving instructor should really be telling you this.

Q: can a golden retriever fit comfortably in a Ford Escape SUV?

A: Totally! I had an Escape and our Weimeraner fit great in the back w/her bed. Now we have a Choc Lab as well and an Explorer, and they both fit nicely in the back (w/their beds too).

If you do road trips/camping, etc., I would recommend a luggage carrier. We just have a Rubbermaid one that cost about $30 and fits perfectly on top of the car in between the roof rack.

Q: would nice subs sound better in a ford escape (suv) or a saturn ion (small car)?
im getting nice subs and i was wondering which they would sound better in. thanks

A: the ford escape would sound best. because u dont have the back seat stoping sound from getting to u like u would in the saturn.. they sound better in my trailblazer then my cobolt..

Q: Would nice subs sound better in a ford escape (suv) or a saturn ion (small car)?
yeah… gettn subs so im just wondering

A: Depends on what you classify as “nice subs”?

18s for a SUV and 12s for the ion

Q: Is the Ford Escape a good looking SUV for a 20+ single man?
I need an suv on that size, but honda cr-v and toyota rav-4 looks like suv for women what do you think?

A: I think its a great looking SUV for a guy. I see many men driving these cars. Great fuel economy, has 4WD, i don’t like its 4WD system, but otherwise i like the escape. http://www.auto123.com/ArtImages/106404/2009-ford-escape-001.jpg Here’s the escape XLT sport. Great looking manly car. This is just like people say about my explorer. They tell me its not manly, its a SUV made for women. I love it tho. It has been great, reliable, and i think its manly. If you were to consider a truck, I’d suggest the ford ranger. Make sure you get a V6 escape, i’ve read good reviews on those. But i have read some bad things about the I4 escape. Lots of transmission trouble on those (4Cyl). Definately consider the escape. I think its a suitable car for guys, also for the ladies. But i agree, the Toyota and Honda looks like women suvs.

Q: Which is the better overall small SUV: Ford Escape or Honda CR-V?
With gas prices fluctuating the way they do these days, I need to plan ahead for my next vehicle purchase as my little Ford pick-up is nearing 240,000 miles. I’m 6′5″ so a car is out of the question, but I still want decent gas mileage. That’s why I plan on making the jump from small pick-up to small SUV.

I know both the CR-V and the Escape average around 24-25 MPG highway with an automatic transmission so I guess the rest comes down to overall durability and longevity. I feel a vehicle should take care of me as long as I take care of it. I’m looking for a good solid 10-15+ year vehicle here folks. I’d appreciate any advice you can offer.

A: That’s easy, Honda CR-V, its worth the buy, we used to own a Ford Escape until the reliability really was a pain. then we decided to switch to a CR-V a smart choice that was.

Q: is a ford escape a good suv?
Right now I own a Chevy Cobalt. I want an SUV because I live in PA and our winters can get pretty bad – and I travel quite a bit for college and need an SUV for the future (kids, etc.) Is a Ford Escape a good kind-of small SUV? I don’t want anything huge like a Tahoe for example.

A: I have a 2001 Escape with a V6 and 4 wheel drive that I bought new.It has been A very good car so far.It also gets about 23mpg highway.

Q: Is it worth buying a hybrid car/SUV like the Ford Escape if it cost thousands to buy over regular vehicle?
I heard that the Escape runs aboot 5-6k more than the regular Escape. This seems like a lot of money to save a few pennies at the pump. Also, are their any other American made car or truck hybrids that are worth looking at, and how does this relate to the cost differentials? Please advise.

A: You won’t save any money unless you own the car for a long time if you compare the hybrid and non-hybrid. However, if you want to help the environment, you might think it is worth it. Also, some hybrids actually have better performance than the non-hybrid models.

Q: SUV Hybrid – Ford Escape or Saturn VUE?
I’m in the market for a new SUV and REALLY want a Hybrid due to gas prices.

Based on my budget, it looks like my best options are the Escape or VUE.

Can someone help me out here. I’ve driven both and am leaning towards the Ford.

What are the good and bad things about each of these or is there another, better option I’m overlooking??

Hoping someone with some real knowledge can help me make this tough call.

Thanks
BS

A: I would go with the Ford. Ford has been making the Escape Hybrid for longer than Saturn has with the Vue. Also, I think the Escape is a much more stylish looking vehicle, I like the whole boxy look to it. And the Escape gets better city mileage, which is always a plus!! Hope you find a great hybrid! Lucky you can afford one! I can’t :’(
