Q: What is the red LED in the 2010 Ford Escape steering column for?
I just got a 2010 Ford escape and there is a little LED near the hazard switch in the steering column that keeps blinking red but I can’t find anywhere in the manual what it indicates. My friend has an identical Escape but his does not blink. Anyone knows?
A: It’s the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) indicater light. See page 107-8-9 of your owners manual.

Anti-theft indicator
The anti-theft indicator is located in the instrument panel cluster.
• When the ignition is in the off
position, the indicator will flash
once every two seconds to
indicate the SecuriLock system
is functioning as a theft
deterrent.
• When the ignition is in the on position, the indicator will glow for
three seconds to indicate normal system functionality.
If a problem occurs with the SecuriLock system, the indicator will flash
rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition is in the on position. If this
occurs, turn the ignition off then back to on to make sure there was no
electronic interference with the programmed key. If the vehicle doesn’t
start, try to start it with the 2nd programmed key and if successful
contact your authorized dealership for key replacement. If the indicator
still flashes rapidly or glows steadily, the vehicle will not start, contact
your authorized dealer as soon as possible for service.
Automatic arming
The vehicle is armed immediately after switching the ignition to the off
position.
The theft indicator will flash every
two seconds to act as a theft
deterrent when the vehicle is
armed.
Automatic disarming
The vehicle is disarmed immediately after the ignition is turned to the on
position.
The theft indicator will illuminate for three seconds and then go out. If
the theft indicator stays on for an extended period of time or flashes
rapidly, contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
Replacement Integrated Keyhead Transmitters (IKT) and coded
keys
Note: Your vehicle comes equipped with two Integrated Keyhead
Transmitters (IKTs). The IKT functions as both a programmed ignition
key that operates all the locks and starts the vehicle, as well as a remote

i’m broke so we bought the basic 2010 ford escape. it doesn’t come with a remote start on it, but i wanted to get one installed. about how much would it cost? and is it even possible?
A: As long as it’s automatic.
You can’t install a remote start on a manual car because the neutral safety switch is the clutch, which has to be pressed down for the car to start. In automatics, its just having it in “P” for Park.
I think Advance Auto has a Do It Yourself, or Install It Yourself rather, but its like $400. I’m unsure of the average costs but it cant be too cheap.
Q: Can I upgrade the radio on a 2010 Ford Escape?
Is it possible to replace the radio in a 2010 Ford Escape if it has factory installed SYNC and Sirus Radio? I wouldn’t mind changing the factory radio out for a double-din touchscreen or Navigation system. I want to keep it clean but don’t want to mess up the SYNC features if it’s built into the existing radio.
A: You can replace it for a touchscreen navigation system ( http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130AVIC310/Pioneer-AVIC-U310BT.html?tp=20212 ) but you will lose the Microsoft Sync feature with ANY aftermarket head unit.
Q: 2010 Ford Escape engine compartment only has primer in it and is not the same color as the exterior.?
I bought an Escape not to long ago and am just noticing now that they engine compartment is a dull gray color while the rest of the vehicle is a silver metallic paint with a clear coat. Does Ford paint all Escapes like this?
It had 3 miles on it when I bought it, and I ordered it from the factory. It could not of ever been in an accident.
A: Your Escape is normal. Why put flashy paint on an area where nobody but mechanics and owners ever look? Rest easy they did not screw you over.

A: After looking at the vehicle in different colors, I think the White Suede looks the best. Black is to simple, there are plenty of black cars, and the same goes for silver. So id go with the White Suede. Good Luck on your purchase.

I have a 2010 Ford Escape XLS 4cyl 2.5liter and I would like to get a tow hitch but I’m not sure if my engine is big enough to even worry about getting a tow hitch. Is that enough power to tow something like 250-500lbs? Or should I not even worry about getting a tow hitch.

Hi there, I’m SO close to buying a Ford Escape (2010) that I thought I would ask some opinions of people who already have them. Firstly, do you like it, secondly, was it worth it, and lastly, if you could have chosen any other vehicle over the Escape, which car would it be?
I have a 2003 Ford Mustang Convertible Pony Edition with only 55,000 kms on it, and I went to the Canadian Blue Book web site to find out how much it was worth and got a price that was about $2,000 lower than what the dealer offered me if I traded it in. This Mustang is my first car, and it’s never been in an accident and it’s got a clean record. With that in mind, how do you get over the sentimental attachment to an object you value? I’m going to find it extremely difficult to let go of the Mustang, but if it’s going to save me a bundle on a trade in, then I shouldn’t think twice about letting it go. I’ve had the Mustang for almost 7 years now and although it’s nice, it’s not very practical and insurance is a killer ($3,100 the first year, $2,900 the following year, coming down with each accident-free year). What’s insurance like on the Escape? I hope it would be considerably less because it’s a) not my first car and b) not a sports car and c) I’m not a first-time car buyer now. It’s been paid for for years, and I take excellent care of it, and would do the same with the Escape if I buy one.
I think I need some advice… any of you Escape owners out there have anything good to say about it?
