A: I work on them often. I work for GM @ a Chevy dealer. I do not recommend this vehicle to anyone, because of the following: There have been multiple problems with the all wheel drive systems used in many of these vehicles, requiring rebuilding of the differential [rear] assembly. The handling is EXTREMELY poor, and the vehicle’s potential to flip or roll is high, because despite Chevy trying to give it a low center of gravity, the suspension has so much travel (and looseness) to it that it makes the handling sloppy and unresponsive. The engine (3.5 liter v6) is basically reliable, as it was built off of past 3.4 liter engines, but improved upon. The power response is below average for a vehicle its size. The orientation of the dash and seating makes you feel like your sitting in a disorganized room instead of a vehicle. I like a lot of Chevy models, but I cannot recommend this vehicle, it’s just a poor overall concept.

Hi there I am looking into purchase a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. Just wondering for the price is it a good, safe SUV, and is what is the fuel effeicentcy? Or what would you suggest for around the same price?
A: The Equinox isn’t the best small SUV at the pump. The official window sticker wasn’t even close to actual performance. My customers are averaging 17-20 across the board when they were rated between 19-24. The Buick Rendezvous is a good alternative. Fuel economy is better along with construction quality. There are less rattles and the option for a 3rd row seat makes a huge difference.

A: good overall vehicle but if you are spending that much money look for a trailblazer for a couple thousand more and have alot more truck.

A: Same vehicle, different name for the country it is sold in. BTW, I bought an Equinox 5 weeks ago, and I LOVE IT! I average 19-20 mpg, with mostly in town driving.

A: Not much difference other than cosmetics. The Saturn and Pontiac may loose value faster as GM is shutting down these divisions. I would pick the Chevy myself.

A: The Vue, Torrent and Equinox are ALL built on the GM “Theta” Platform, so under the skin they are the same vehicle. The Saturn was the first of this family with the others coming later on, but mechanically they are very similar.
Pontiac and Saturn Divisions of GM are both done, so the resale on these models is going to be lower due to a lack of dealer support and parts availability. Get the Chevy if you are concerned about getting repair parts or having a dealer close by. Mechanical parts will not be a problem for years because the vehicles are really built on the same chassis. Where the trouble comes in, is in body and trim parts; which are division specific and with PONTIAC and SATURN going away, these parts will become scarce rather quickly!
The 2007 VUE does have the distinct advantage of using a HONDA J35 A3 engine which is a VERY well engineered engine! It is possible that the Chevy or Pontiac could use a Chinese manufactured 3.4 V-6, which in my opinion is a huge liability! This engine may be great, I just have a real distrust of ANYTHING that is “made in China”!

Which one are you going to buy? A base 2010 Cadillac SRX for 33,330 3.0L V6 or a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ 4 cylinder for 29,000??? Please give me what made you come up with such a choice. I want to know which one is the logical and practical SUV to buy. thanks!

I suck at buy car! I know that dealership love me because when i walk in, if they say that is good then ill buy it! I think its because i trust them. Which i know isn’t a good thing! It happen! Bought my first car that i don’t even LIKE! I was 18 at that time! A: the murano is not that bad 7.5 out of 10
the equinox is not a great SUV 6 out of 10
Acuras MDX is good but it’s a 2004, Acuras are great 7.5 out of 10
the best will be the Toyota Highlander it’s a 2007, very good SUV 8 out of 10
Q: Carmax is offering a 2008 chevrolet equinox Ls with 27k miles for 19,000 total price. Is there any way I can..?
get a new SUV for that price? I feel like 20k is a lot for a used car. I went to a chevrolet dealership and showed them the carmax offer. They “tried” to work something out but I was told it’d be 32k after all was said and done. goodness! the base price was 26,000, it was the only chevrolet equinox they had available.any suggestions?
A: Check out Saturn, they have the same base vehicle available but it doesn’t cost as much.

I am really liking the trailblazers, and the equinoxes, both by chevy, but I have mixed reviews on the internet. I don’t like the hundai and honda SUV’s, other than those do you recommend one? I want one that will get 200,000 miles on it.
A: I work for a large auto dealer and based on safety, mpg, features, reliability, longevity etc . . . my first choice for an SUV would be a Toyota Highlander if you need something bigger with the 3rd row. If you are fine with a smaller SUV, I like the Ford Edge a lot.
When my twins are a bit older and I don’t need the minivan anymore . . . the Highlander is at the top of my list.

I have been leaning toward the nissan murano, but I was just introduced to the chevrolet equinox. The equinox seems more inexpensive, but murano is nicer and as better consumer ratings. I would be looking at a 2006 Murano vs 2008 Equinox, they are around the same price. Thanks!
A: The Murano will have the sam nice tight driving experience that it does now at 100k miles. The Equinox will feel “used” after about 20k. You would have more warranty on the EQ BUT te Murano is far more reliable and the cost of a good extended warranty is minimal when put in perspective. If you find a nice used Murano you had better jump on it. I work at a Nissan dealer and I have never seen one last longe than 2 weeks. One more thing, the Murano will have a lot better value down the road. An EQ is going to put you in a loan that will be extremely expensive to get out of down the road if you need to (we’re talking like $10K or more of negative equity).

I am getting a mini suv probably a 2006 chevrolet equinox or a 2006 tuscan hyundai for my 16th birthday. I am going to have to pay the insurance on it though, I would be cosighning with my parents. A: If I had 25K to spend I’d definitely get the much better Santa Fe instead of the Tucson. I agree with poster 2 that you should reconsider buying a new vehicle and instead get a 2-3 year old model for about 40% less. As a new driver you will most likely be in an accident sooner rather then later (I’ve rarely met a teen that didn’t, myself included), so please do get full coverage. As for the cost of insurance, if its on your parents policy you can probably get full coverage for as low as $1600, however if you had to go out on your own it could cost more then $3500 a year. Rates vary widely by insurance company, so don’t assume you’ll get the best rate on the first phone call. The insurance company doesn’t care if you have a daughter, better not to tell them, just make sure to put her in the backseat with the childseat facing backwards. I don’t know how many miles you will be driving, but don’t forget the cost of gas and vehicle maintainence can add up and SUV’s are more costly then cars in both those areas.

DETROIT (CNNMoney.com) — After finishing off an enviable year for a domestic automaker, Ford Motor Co. won both the North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards presented Monday at the start of Detroit’s North American International Auto Show.
The Ford Fusion Hybrid sedan won Car of the Year and the Ford Transit Connect van won Truck of the Year. This is the second year in a row that Ford (F, Fortune 500) has won Truck of the Year. The F-150 pick-up was last year’s recipient. The Hyundai Genesis won car of the year last year.
The Fusion Hybrid is a hybrid gas/electric version of Ford’s popular Fusion mid-sized sedan. It gets 41 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the highway and has received kudos from auto critics for being enjoyable to drive as well as for its efficiency.
The Fusion Hybrid was awarded the Motor Trend Car of the Year in November.
•The last time one automaker took home both awards was in 2007 when General Motors won with the Saturn Aura sedan and the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up.

I’m about to be 16 & i get any car i want for my birthday. & i want a Chevrolet Equinox. Are they good on gas for them being a suv? Does anyone know about how much it cost for a full tank of gas & is it a gas hog?
